4. Securities from Taxable Account: Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds
a. Giving appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds can be a tax-efficient way to donate
b. May reduce capital gains tax by donating directly instead of by selling the security
c. Can deduct the full current market value when security is donated to the charity
5. Cash from IRA and meet RMD as a tax free transfer up to $100,000
a. PATH Act – a special tax Bill that permits tax-free Charitable Transfers from IRAs
b. Americans over 70 ½ are required to take a minimum distribution from IRAs (RMD) each year
c. They can distribute up to $100,000 annually without paying federal taxes if that distribution goes directly to a charity with 501(c)(3) status.
